Sexuality & Disability
Professional Development Workshop

About the Workshop
The topic of sexuality is a complex one, and even more complex in the world of intellectual disability. People with intellectual disabilities are the most sexually victimized group in society. As caregivers, teachers, service providers, and support workers we play a role in supporting individuals with disabilities as they develop a positive and healthy sense of self and their relationships.

This workshop will explore:

  • the myth and mythologies of disability and sexuality

  • the ethics of touch in a caregiver relationship

  • what we need to teach people with disabilities about sexuality and safety

  • how to respond to questions about sexuality and be role model and support

  • responding to and reporting abuse

  •  and much more
